Middle Class this! Middle Class that! Would someone please define “Middle Class” to me? It seems it’s so widely applied that 95% of Americans fall into the definition and that is clearly not correct.
Based on 2003 numbers (I’m lazy and it hasn’t changed much) I’d run my classifications this way:
Lower Class:
$0 to $25,000 (28%)
Middle Class:
$25,000 to $50,000 (27%)
$50,000 to $75,000 (18%)
$75,000 to $100,000 (11%)
$100,000 to $149,000 (11%)
$145,000 and more (5%)I’d concur household earning between $25,000 and $75,000 qualifies as “middle income”. But that’s not the way politicians want you to think as they’re always concerned about $250,000 earners being “middle income”.
